Ex-Head Girl visits Year 7
Ms Spottiswoode, Year Leader: Year 7, writes:
Cllr Annie Brewster, ex-Head girl of Stanborough School, visited the school to speak to Year 7 students about her experiences at school and what she has achieved in her life. She reminisced about her time at Stanborough and the inspirational teachers, especially those who encouraged her in Art and PE. Annie went on to compete internationally in athletics and is now a keen
artist.
Annie joined Wheathampstead Parish Council and worked as part of a team to install a 4G football pitch for the youth of the village to enjoy, and a
Heritage Trail around the village to showcase the wonderful historical buildings. She was later elected as District Councillor for Wheathampstead & County Councillor for Harpenden Rural.
Annie was elected as 469th Mayor of St Albans in 2013, where she embraced the role and her love of sport and charity work, combining the two to raise the profile of many local organisations.
Cllr Brewster told the pupils that throughout her life “the harder I worked, the luckier I got”. The pupils loved hearing about her experiences and asked insightful questions about her role as Mayor.
Annie was very impressed as she toured the school with Mrs John and commented that we have a “great school with adorable students.”
Mrs John said “it was a pleasure to welcome such an inspirational speaker to our school and we hope this will be the start of an ongoing relationship between the school and Cllr Brewster”.
