Highlights of the Month
The Year 10 football team pulled off the biggest win for a Stanborough sports team this year as they travelled to Stevenage in the County Cup. On a freezing cold and wet evening the boys played fantastically well to beat a very talented Marriotts side. The game had few chances but Stanborough dominated possession; Luke Laurence pulled off some fine saves when required but the game soon went to extra time without a goal being scored. The game looked destined for penalties until Stanborough’s captain, Alex Khan, stepped over a free kick on the edge of the box, the centre back riffled the free kick into the top corner to spark eruptions on the side lines. Stanborough were able to see the game out to move into the third round where they will face another tough trip away to Aldenham.
The basketball season is now in full flow and there was an excellent opening game result for the Year 9 team as they came out on top against Onslow. Some excellent play under both baskets from Sebastian Hourigan and Bomo Alagoa enabled Stanborough to dominate possession and Ellis Webb was in fine form finishing off a number of baskets for the Greens.
The Year 8 Netball team put on a brilliant performance against Bishop’s Hatfield Girls school. The girls lead from the start and took a 10 – 3 lead into the half time interval, Bishop’s rallied in the second half but Stanborough rode the storm out and increased their lead to record a comfortable win against very good opposition. All girls played extremely well but Louise Grenfell was singled out as Girl of the Game by Bishop’s. The Year 7 team were also in dominant form as they beat Ridgeway by 18 points, Chloe Walpole and Aimee Ricketts scored all 18 points between them for Stanborough in a fantastic display of shooting.
