Super Curriculum: Modern Foreign Languages
Year 7
- Reading: Read aloud the classroom instructions glued in the back of your book to practice your French pronunciation. Get your parent/sibling to repeat after you, like you do with the teacher in class.
- Watching: Watch your favourite cartoon/TV programme in French and note any words you can understand.
- Listening: Listen to a Spanish story read aloud: thespanishexperiment.com/stories
- Writing: Research a historical figure from the French-speaking world and create a fact file in French (PPT for display or class presentation).
- Creative: Cook or bake a traditional dish from the French-speaking world. Bring food/photos and write the recipe and name of the dish in French.
- Virtual: Change the language of your phone/tablet/game console to French or play a game in French. Provide screenshot evidence over time.
Year 8
- Reading: Read a French story on storyplayr.com
- Watching: Watch a French film (school event or Netflix) and write a 40-word review in French.
- Listening: Listen to a French radio station and write down any words you recognize.
- Writing: Research a French-speaking region and create a French info booklet or give a short presentation.
- Creative: Cook/bake a French-speaking world dish. Bring food/photos and write the recipe and name in French.
- Virtual: Use Google Maps to tour a town in France. Note places and write directions from one to another in French.
Year 9
- Reading: Read a French fairytale: thefablecottage.com/languages/french
- Watching: Watch French news for kids: newsinslowfrench.com or Why Learn French? (YouTube)
- Listening: (Combined with watching above)
- Writing: Write a postcard or letter to a French pen pal about your half term or school life.
- Creative: Create a Bastille Day leaflet for tourists.
- Virtual: Plan a trip to Disneyland Paris, including a visit itinerary.
