District League Results:
Year 10 – Stanborough 4 – 0 Hertswood (J.Read, L.Mann, CJ Gilhooly x 2)
Year 8 – Stanborough 4 – 6 Hertswood
Stanborough Year 10s started the defence of their district title by seeing off Hertswood on Monday evening. Hertswood started strongly and tried to assert their physical presence, however Stanborough soon got into their stride and using their excellent passing game took control of the match. The breakthrough came after 20 mins when Jensen Read coolly finished after a good through ball from Michael Rodriguez. Liam Mann then doubled the score just before half time as Stanborough took complete control of the game. Two debut goals from CJ Gilhooly, which included a fantastic header from a fine Bailey Cripps’ corner and a calm one on one finish after good work from Joe Georgiou, put Stanborough four goals up with plenty of time left in the game. Hertswood became frustrated at this point and became more physical with a number of clashes, however Stanborough kept calm and saw the game out thanks to a fine back line performance from Alex Kahn, Jonathan Biba, Michael Adepoju and Zach Read. Goal keeper Luke Laurence had very little to do in the Stanborough goal but was assured as always if needed. Man of the Match went to CJ Gilhooly.
The Year 7 team took part in a extremely entertaining game against the same opposition. It was the first game the boys had played and it ended up in a10 goal thriller! Stanborough lead the game 1-0, 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 so will feel extremely disappointed not to come away with something. Despite letting in six goals Jack Tang put in an unbelievable performance between the sticks with a number of fine saves. Well done to all boys who took part and hopefully they will get their first win in Stanborough colours in their next match.
Both Stanborough teams travel back to Borehamwood on Monday evening to play Yavneh. Good Luck!

It was the first time the Year 7 squad had played in a competitive fixture for Stanborough and they performed fantastically. Stanborough’s Year 9 and 7B team came away with excellent wins whilst the Year 10 and 7A team were beaten, however all girls played with a great attitude and all PE staff are looking forward to the rest of the matches this year!
