Summer Music Concert 2018
Mrs E. Jackson, Subject Leader: Music, writes:
Thursday 5th July saw this year’s Summer Concert, with
around 60 students and staff performing. As with every
concert there was a wide array of talent on show from across the school, from Chloe Green 8A singing ‘Tightrope’ from The Greatest Showman, to the choir performances of ‘I’ve got Rhythm’ by Gershwin, ‘Sleep’ by Eric Whitacre, ‘Never Enough’ from the Greatest Showman and ‘Man in the Mirror’ by Michael Jackson, to Harry Boulton, 13S, playing ‘Melodies of Life’ on the piano in his final concert at Stanborough.
There were several students involved in the concert who had taken the time to come back after their exams to join in, from Emily Bakewell 11A, Hayden Cable 11A and Justine House 11B, who performed ‘Pompeii’ by Bastille, to Gabriel Rosario 13A and Macy-Leigh Birleson 13A as well as Harry. They all performed brilliantly. The highlight of the concert, however, was the surprise performance by Mr Brown, who delighted the audience by performing ‘Angie’ by the Rolling Stones on guitar with Macy singing. Rehearsals for this top secret performance had been cleverly orchestrated by Mr Brown and Macy with covert rehearsals taking place in the music department after normal school hours over the last few weeks. This performance was such a success, that Mr Brown and Macy performed an unexpected encore of ‘Valerie’ by the Zutons, joined by Harry Boulton, Will Stringer 12K and Thomas Cranham 11O.
A massive congratulations to all the performers in the concert and a big thank you to all the members of the Sound and Light Team, without whom there would be nothing to see and nothing to hear!
