Pastoral Support
The pastoral system works to support the personal and social development and academic progress of students.
Pastoral care is organised through year-based mixed ability tutor groups which are affiliated to house groups. Year leaders, deputy year leaders and tutors are responsible for the attendance, progress, behaviour and well-being of students. Tutors generally remain with tutor groups for five years from Years 7 – 11. In Years 12 and 13, students are in mixed tutor groups.
The pastoral team are generally the first port of call for concerns about students. As a school we can access a range of support agencies, for example, we employ a full time student and family worker and a part time student counsellor.
Students are encouraged to do well both in terms of their academic achievement and also their approach to learning and extra-curricular achievements. We operate a comprehensive system of rewards and sanctions to support our high expectations of success for all through mutual respect.
Each year group is overseen by an Assistant Headteacher who monitors the progression and well-being of either Key Stage Three or Key Stage Four and Five.
