Community
We recognise the importance of our school being at the heart of the local community, and have developed strong links with our neighbours and community partners.
As part of Stanborough School’s Specialist School Status, we are involved in mathematics projects and IT, computing and robotics master classes with our partner primary schools. We also provide e-safety workshops for local primary schools. Our Sports Leaders also plan, organise and deliver sporting events to the nine primary schools we support with their PE provision. Shared projects are also undertaken with Lakeside School, our neighbouring special school, including the Transactive Project, and the Community Involvement Project for Post-16 Students.
Stanborough School has forged further links with other Handside Schools – Lakeside and Applecroft schools – to create an educational partnership for the benefit of the students in all three schools. We hold joint events such as the Easter Cheer event where students from all three schools performed for our local neighbours. Students have also worked on a photography project and gardening project at St Andrew’s Care Home.
We also collaborate with our partners in the Welwyn and Hatfield Consortium (Bishop’s Hatfield Girls, Monk’s Walk, Onslow St Audrey’s and Ridgeway) as part of our Post 16 provision.
We work very closely with the Welwyn Garden City Extended Schools Consortium, which links primary and secondary schools in the town with parents and community groups. Recent projects include support courses for parents of teenagers, a “family jam” music activity and a family history writing competition.
