Beyond the 6th Form

The process for considering Post 18 pathways begins during Year 12. The Friday morning pastoral programme focuses on university, apprenticeships and career routes. Students utilise the ‘Unifrog’ careers programme in addition to a variety of guest speakers to inform their decisions.

In March, students attend two key events. The first is a trip to Brunel University which affords students the opportunity to experience a university campus as well as to speak with representatives from all UK universities and to attend subject talks. This is a chance for students to find out about courses and collect prospectuses. The second is an Apprenticship Fair at Stadium MK which attracts approximately 100 companies from a variety of industries who offer apprenticeships at intermediate and higher levels.

At the end of the year, students receive a Higher Education pack which gives them vital information about the early stages of preparing for a University Application.

The actual application process begins in June when students are introduced to the UCAS system and given advice on writing personal statements and completing the online application process. At Stanborough, all students applying to university do so via EAS (The Electronic Application System). Students are encouraged to attend open days and seek ongoing support with their application from both their personal tutor and Post 16 Leader.
