District Athletics 2019
Mr Harris, Joint Curriculum Leader: PE, writes:
After a long summer of athletics in some indifferent weather, Stanborough’s athletes took part in the annual District Athletics Championships at Jarman Park, Hemel Hempstead. Stanborough competed against all 12 schools from the district which includes very talented athletes from all girls’, private and selective schools such Dame Alice Owen, Bishop Hatfield Girls and Queenswood. It is widely regarded as one of the most competitive competitions in the county with many of the schools finishing highly ranked in County League Athletics competitions.
The weather was very hot but as usual Stanborough’s athletes did themselves, and the school, proud with their attitude, behaviour and performances. There were many fine performances by Stanborough students but a few highlights from the day for each year group are listed below.

Stand Out Performances
Louise Grenfell came within two seconds of beating the district record in the 800m which has stood for 23 years, this is a fantastic effort and if her event had been in the morning when conditions were cooler she would surely would have broken the record. Stephen Bates stepped up and claimed his first long jump win of the season, this comes after fantastic commitment to the county league season. Danny Eason knocked 16 seconds off of his PB in the 1500m against a highly competitive field. The Year 12 boys team also performed amazingly, every event they took part in they collected a medal. Finally, Bailey Cripps captured his 4th successive gold in javelin, he has never been beaten in this event at the district championships and becomes the first Stanborough student to do this for over 15 years which is an outstanding achievement.
