Grants to Stanborough School
At the AGM in October FOSS were able to agree immediate funding for:
£349.56 for 30 copies of “Prisoners of Geography: Our World Explained in Ten Simple Maps”
£65.94 for a weighted blanket and a lightweight blanket for Compass
£562 for an incubator for biological samples
At January’s FOSS committee meeting we additionally approved £499.15 for micro pipettes for Biology GCSE and A-Level students. Thank you for all your support at FOSS events and in the form of regular donations that have made these grants possible. More requests for funding will be considered during the rest of the year as funds become available.
Help Needed!
The FOSS committee has been largely unchanged for the past three or four years and most of committee members’ children are now in their last or last-but-one year. This means that FOSS desperately needs new committee members to take over. If you have experience of primary school PTA work, rest assured FOSS involvement is nowhere near as demanding. Please consider volunteering – we have a number of events (PTIs, the school show and the Year 7 disco) during this term, to which you would be most welcome. Please email fosschair@gmail.com or come to see us at the FOSS refreshments stall.
Blazers
Just a reminder that we have a stock of second-hand blazers. These are sold at PTIs for £8, but if you have an emergency requirement, please email us and we’ll do our best to help between times.
We urge anyone who has finished with their blazers to donate them. We can resell clean, tidy blazers without permanent stains. You can bring them into the school office any time or to the FOSS refreshments stall at any event we are covering.
EasyFundraising and Amazon Smile
Don’t forget you can contribute to FOSS via EasyFundraising and Amazon Smile. These are really easy, no-cost ways for you to raise funds for the school while you shop online. Go to easyfundraising.org.uk, create an account if you don’t already have one, and adopt Friends of Stanborough School as your chosen cause. Then download the browser plug-in, which will pop up whenever you visit a participating vendor site. All you have to do is click the Activate Donation button and a percentage of your purchase price comes to FOSS at no cost to you. Do note, though, if you decide to switch to a different browser you need to download the easyfundraising plug-in again – it doesn’t carry over from browser to browser.
For Amazon Smile, change your Amazon bookmark to smile.amazon.co.uk. Adopt Friends of Stanborough School as your chosen cause and Amazon does the rest!
Regular Donations
Some parents/carers choose to make a regular donation to FOSS, for which we are most grateful. If you too would like to set up a regular donation however large or small, please email fosschair@gmail.com and we will send you a standing order bank mandate for you to complete and send to your bank (or set up online) and a Gift Aid form that will allow us to claim an additional 20% of the value of your donation from HMRC. Additionally, if you are a higher rate taxpayer you can include the Gift-Aided donation on your tax return to reduce your overall tax liability.
We look forward to seeing you at the FOSS refreshment stall.
