HOUSE DANCE 2018
Ms Smith, Subject Leader: Dance and Mr Minion, House Co-ordinator, writes:
This year’s House Dance took place on Thursday the 18th October. The event was held in the evening which added to the atmosphere of a successful show completely choreographed by the students. We had over 100 students involved in the competition which is the largest number since the competition began. Each year the standard of the performances improves with students being responsible for all of the costumes, lighting and sound, make up and of course choreography.
This year’s themes were;
Ashridge – Feminism
Brocket – Heroes
Hatfield – TV Shows
Knebworth – The Last Goodbye
Offley – Awareness
Sopwell – Women in Music
Performance Awards were given to the following students;
Faith Beckles and Chloe Steel – Sopwell
Small Group – Knebworth
Large Group – Ashridge
Choreography awards went to;
Amy Sharp – Offley House
Abby Mortimer – Brocket
Best Newcomer
Tomas Montenegro – Hatfield
After arguably the closest competition yet, there was a great deal of discussion and deliberation. The eagerly awaited results were:
1st | Knebworth | Well thought out group piece with use of clear choreographic devices, each piece accurately represented the theme. |
2nd | Brocket | Very well executed and thought provoking small group performance and Hereos past and present. A beautiful solo and fun large performance including a staff turtle! |
3rd | Ashridge | High energy small group piece with a comical story line. A well executed large group including strong formations. |
4th | Sopwell | Well executed solo with live music. Real sense of fun in the group dance and excellent performance in the duet. |
5th | Offley | Good use of techniques and use of choreographic devices in the large group. A beautifully performed solo. |
6th | Hatfield | Good sense of fun exploring some iconic tv shows and it was lovely to see new faces in the group performance. |
A huge well done to all the students involved. The evening showcased the depth of talent at Stanborough and the commitment and organisational skills of our students. It was particularly impressive seeing our House Captains, many of whom are not Dance specialists, producing such fantastic displays. The wonderfully supportive atmosphere, and standard of the show, was noted by parents and staff who attended.
Thanks to Will and the fantastic sound and light crew for their organisation and efforts leading up to and during the event. Thanks to Mr Minion who expertly compered the event and of course all the parents and staff who came along to support.
