The Amgen Experience
Miss H Spiller, Subject Leader: Biology, writes:
On Tuesday 9th October, five Year 12 Biology students from Stanborough were invited to Bishop’s Hatfield Girls’ School to take part in the AMGEN Biotech Experience. This is an innovative programme whereby schools have the opportunity to borrow, completely free, professional laboratory grade biotechnology equipment so that their science students can experience and learn about the its use in the cutting edge science field of biotechnology.
Not only did the Year 12 students have the chance to use biotech apparatus and practice the processes thus deepening students’ knowledge and enriching the science programme, but they also learn about career opportunities in this rapidly developing field.
They also met the Mayor of Hatfield, who paid a visit, along with Janet Cardell, the Programme Manager ABE UK at the centre for STEM Education.
An extremely enjoyable and eye-opening day was had by all, with thanks to Dr Bune and her team of technicians at BHGS.
